
The University of Georgia's Online M.Ed. in Adult Education is specifically designed to meet the needs of working professionals who are unable to attend classes in the traditional university setting. The program, ranked one of the top Adult Education programs in the world, offers a wide range of faculty expertise. The goal of the program is to develop student's knowledge and abilities in the social context of adult education, program development and management processes, and the teaching and learning processes. The M.Ed. degree prepares students for careers in such areas as business and industry, continuing professional education, cooperative extension, health education, community development, religious or gerontology education. The degree program operates on a cohort model, admitting 20 students each fall semester.
The Online M.Ed. degree in the Program of Workforce Education is designed for individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree in education with a specialization in an area of Career and Technical Education (CTE) (i.e. Agricultural Education, Business Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Marketing Education, Trade and Industrial Education, Technological Studies). The Online M.Ed. Program is designed for the working teacher who may be unable to attend traditional university classes due to job demands, location, or family responsibilities. The degree program operates using a cohort format, admitting 20 students each fall semester.
The University of Georgia’s Online M.Ed. in Reading Education with a focus on New and Digital Literacies is specifically designed to meet the needs of certified teachers who are unable to pursue face-to-face coursework in Athens.. This degree program is offered by the Language and Literacy Education Department, whose faculty is recognized nationally and internationally for their teaching and research (link to faculty directory). The goal of the program is to educate teachers in ways that advance their students as readers in the broadest sense from printed materials to digital multimedia environments. This M.Ed. is appropriate for teachers working with students from Pre-kindergarten through grade twelve. The Special Education online program offers qualified students the ability to earn a University of Georgia undergraduate degree in Special Education and to become certified in Special Education General Curriculum through distance learning. This at a distance program is operated by the Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education within the College of Education. This online program is specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals who are unable to attend classes in the traditional university setting.
The Graduate Endorsement in Reading Education provides certified classroom teachers with a focused immersion in the teaching of reading. Teachers from pre-K to Grade 12 obtaining degrees with a focus or major other than Reading Education would benefit from this three-course sequence designed to enhance literacy instruction and practice. The endorsement is also available to non-degree students.
The Gifted and Creative Education Program within the department of Educational Psychology and Instructional Technology in the College of Education offers Gifted In-Field certification courses, Masters (M.Ed.) and Educational Specialist (EdS) degrees. The GCE certification and degree programs are specifically designed to meet the needs of graduate students throughout the state of Georgia who are unable to attend classes in the traditional university setting. These courses emphasize the theory and the application of best practice in the areas of creativity, social and emotional development, diversity and curriculum for gifted students, K-12. The program operates in a cohort format admitting a mixture of non-degree, M.Ed and Ed.S students each Fall, Spring and Summer.
The online ESOL Endorsement program, consisting of three courses offered at both undergraduate and graduate levels, provides "add-on" certification to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and ESOL sheltered courses in P-12 Georgia public schools. The program is also of value to mainstream teachers likely to have English learners in their classrooms. The addition of ESOL to a Georgia teaching certificate is only valid for educators who have or will hold a teaching credential (clear and renewable certificate) in another subject area (e.g., elementary education, mathematics, Spanish), a speech and language pathology professional certificate, or school counseling credential. Non-degree graduate students may also enroll in these ESOL endorsement courses.
The College of Pharmacy offers a graduate level certificate program in Clinical Trials Design and Management, another in Regulatory Affairs, and a Master of Science degree option with an emphasis in Regulatory Affairs.
This is a graduate program specifically designed to meet the needs of practicing county extension agents and middle/high school agriculture teachers, especially those outside of the Athens area.
A new online joint degree program with the University of Melbourne (Australia). Students must apply and be admitted by both institutions; they will receive one degree, conferred jointly by the two institutions.
Independent and Distance Learning (IDL), administered by the Center for Continuing Education, allows students to take web-based e-correspondence courses taught by UGA instructors. These courses award the same academic credit as their face-to-face equivalents, while allowing students to enroll at any time and work at their own pace.
Online programs offered by the Center for Continuing Education, not for academic credit, allow off-campus professionals to work at their own pace and on their own schedule to develop their skills in marketing research, healthcare management, pharmacokinetics, governmental accounting, and many other fields.
